Warrant Arrests, Mischief, Attempted Vehicle Thefts, Impaired and R.I.D.E

Warrant Arrests

Over the past 24hrs Officers executed 2 arrest warrants.  The first, a 23 year old St. Thomas man that was wanted on outstanding sexual assault investigation dating back to 2023.  The male was arrested in London, brought to St. Thomas where he was processed and later released on an Undertaking with Conditions and a future court date. (ST24008058).  The second was a 36 year old St. Thomas man, arrested at an address in the downtown core.  The male had failed to attend court on a previous date and as such was arrested.  The male was released from police custody with a new court date. (ST24008094)

Attempted Vehicle Thefts

Officers were contacted by two separate complainants on Saturday in regards to suspects attempting to steal their vehicles. In the first instance the neighbour of the caller had reportedly scared off 2 males suspects attempting to steal the caller’s motorcycle.  Around 6:20am on Saturday the caller reported that his neighbour interrupted two potential thieves pushing his motorcycle out of the Ross St. parking lot where the bike had been parked.  The two males ran off when spooked by the neighbour.  Very vague details of the suspects were reported, only that they were males, with dark hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up.  The bike was recovered and at the time of release it is unknown if there was any significant damage incurred.  (ST24008083).

A second vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup, was reportedly attempted to be stolen sometime overnight on Friday into Saturday.  The vehicles owner awoke to find that someone appeared to have attempted to steal the vehicle.  Damage to the vehicle’s ignition system, steering column, door handles and taillights was reported by the owner.  There were no suspects reported in this matter.  (ST24008106).

 

RIDE Check

Officers conducted a RIDE program on Saturday stopping approximately 680 vehicles at various check points around the city.  No incidents were reported.  (St24008108).

Police Station Mischief

A 29 year old male of No Fixed Address has been charged with Mischief after he used a body spray aerosol to damage a CCTV camera on the property of the police station.  He was arrested immediately, processed and later released on an Undertaking with Conditions and court date.  (ST24008121)

Impaired Driver

A 26yr old St. Thomas man was stopped after complaints of an impaired driver early Sunday morning.  The man, was found to be impaired by alcohol when stopped.  He was arrested and brought to the station where it was determined that his BAC was nearly 2.5 times the legal limit.  The man now faces numerous charges including Operation While Impaired, Operation in excess of 80 (80+), Obstructing a peace officer, Suspended Drive (Highway Traffic Act), Using plates unauthorized for the vehicle (HTA) and Having No Insurance while driving (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act).  The male will answer to these charges at a future court date.  (ST24008123).

Theft From Local Retailer

Officers responded to a local Walmart Store Saturday night in response to a theft that had taken place at approximately 6pm.   A lone male entered the store, selected 2 window Air Conditioner Units and a fan, exited the store without making any attempt to pay, got into an awaiting U-haul truck and fled the area.  The total value of the items taken is approximately $550. The matter is currently under investigation and Officers are attempting to learn the identity of this man.  If you know this person please contact the St. Thomas police service, or Crime Stoppers.  (ST24008103)
