Media Release Monday May 13th 2024

Impaired Operation

A 61 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday May 12th 2024, officers on general patrol observed the driver showing possible signs of impairment. A stop was conducted and the driver was transported to police headquarters where testing confirmed the 61 year old was impaired by alcohol. The individual was charged with one count Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and one count Operation while Impaired – Plus 80, processed and released on an appearance notice. ST24007659

Break and Enter 

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a residential break and enter. On Friday May 10th 2024, officers were called to an address on the southside of the city to investigate the report of a sunroom being entered and personal belongings stolen. Upon arrival, police learned at approximately 2:30 a.m. an unknown individual(s) attended the area, removed a screen to gain access to the sunroom and removed the belongings. No other damage to the property was reported. Police are reviewing available video surveillance as they continue to investigate. ST24007526

On Friday May 10th 2024, St. Thomas police were called to a business in the industrial area of the city to investigate the report of an unknown person, sleeping inside the building. Upon arrival, police learned someone had gained access to the office area of the building and set up a place to sleep. The individual had left prior to police arrival. No damage was reported and all property was accounted for. This remains under investigation. ST24007529

Theft

A stolen game console has been returned to its rightful owner. On Friday May 10th 2024, police were called to investigate the report of the game system and controllers being stolen and through investigation located the individual responsible for the theft, at a downtown retail store, with the stolen property. Officers were able to retrieve the system and return it. ST24007533

A 33 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday May 12th 2024, St. Thomas police were called to a retail store on Talbot Street for a shoplift in progress. The individual had left the store prior to police arrival but was quickly located a short distance away. As a result the 33 year old was charged with one count of Theft under $5,000 and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. Warrant Arrest

A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Friday May 10th 2024, STPS were notified by Windsor Police who had the individual in custody on the strength of our warrant for Theft over $5,000, stemming from a stolen vehicle investigation in April 2024. St. Thomas police attended Windsor to take custody of the individual and transport them to St. Thomas police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. Fraud 

A St. Thomas resident is out approximately $500 after falling victim to bitcoin scam. On Saturday May 11th 2024, the individual attended police headquarters to report the incident. Police learned the individual was having issues trying to access their online bitcoin investment portfolio when they were contacted by an unknown individual who was able to gain access to the account and transfer $500 to an unknown sourced. This remains under investigation. ST24007562

Failure to Comply 

A 34 year old St. Thomas resident has been been charged. On Friday May 10th 2024, police were called in regards to an unwanted person. Officers attended a northside address and through investigation, learned the 34 year old is on conditions to not attended the address of the call for service. As a result, the St. Thomas resident has been charged with two counts of Failure to Comply with Undertaking. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24007586
