Police respond to multiple thefts over weekend
St. Thomas Police were called to attended a retail store on Talbot Street on Friday April 21st, 2023 in relation to two individuals who had previously been trespassed from the location. Through investigation, STPS also learned the individuals were responsible for a shoplifting incident that occurred in January. Police are reviewing video surveillance and continue to investigate. A bike has been stolen from a residence on St. George Street. St. Thomas Police were called to the area to investigate. The bike is described as a black, red and silver super cycle valued at approximately $150. The victim reports the theft occurred sometime between 5:00 p.m. on Friday April 21st and 12:00 noon on Saturday April 22nd, 2023. Police are reviewing video surveillance and continue to investigate. A trespass notice will be given to a 30 year old St. Thomas resident after St. Thomas Police were called to a local shopping center, Saturday April 22nd, 2023. Loss prevention staff were able to retrieve a stolen item valued at $10, when the individual was confronted outside. ST23006627
A 31 year old St. Thomas resident is wanted for one count Theft under $5,000 after St. Thomas Police were called to respond to a shoplifting incident that occurred on Sunday April 23, 2023 at a Talbot Street grocery store. Reported stolen was approximately $48 of grocery items. STPS have made a positive ID from video surveillance and a warrant has been requested for arrest. ST23006682
An E Bike valued at approximately $3,000 has been reported stolen from an address on Forest Avenue. St. Thomas Police were called to the address on Sunday April 23 2023, after being contacted by the owner who reports the bike missing from the backyard. The E Bike is pictured here. ST23006692
Romance scam
A local resident is out $1,000 after falling victim to a romance scam. St. Thomas Police were called by the victim for assistance after purchasing and providing gift cards to a person they had been in an online relationship with over the last six months. This was the first time the victim had agreed to the request for money. Police attended, informing the victim of the scam and provided educational resources and the contact information for the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre. ST23006621
Sunday morning disturbance leads to arrest
A 43 year old individual has been charged with one count Causing a Disturbance after St. Thomas Police were called to the area of Elm Street and First Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday April 23rd, 2023. Upon arrival, police observed the individual yelling and approaching vehicles and pedestrians in the area. As a result, the individual was placed under arrest and taken to St. Thomas Elgin Hospital for assessment and admission, released from police custody on an appearance notice. ST23006665
Downtown assault
St. Thomas Police are investigating an assault that occurred at the intersection of Talbot Street and Moore Street at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Sunday April 23rd, 2023. Police were called by a resident in the area who wished to report the incident. All parties were gone upon police arrival, however CCTV surveillance in the area did capture the altercation. Police are reviewing video to identifying the parties involved. ST23006667
Vehicle entry
Identification and credit cards have been reported stolen from a vehicle on Mitchell Street. The victim contacted police on Sunday April 23rd, 2023 after being notified by their credit card company of suspicious charges. The victim’s credit cards have been cancelled and police are continuing to investigate. ST23006671
Warrant Arrest
A 33 year old St. Thomas resident has been charge with one count of Mischief after St. Thomas Police were called to a downtown retail store to move along an unwanted party on Sunday April 23rd, 2023. Upon arrival, police observed an individual known to them to be wanted for mischief after an incident at a west end restaurant on Friday April 21st, 2023. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters, processed and released on an undertaking. ST23006688
