Threats

On Saturday evening, two Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) officers were threatened by an older man at a local park. The officers were conducting routine enforcement checks and requested the individual to present his fishing license. When he was unable to provide the required documentation, the officers, in accordance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, asked the man to identify himself. The situation escalated as the individual became agitated and issued threats to harm the officers. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the STPS at 519-631-1224 or submit a tip to www.stthomas-elgincrimestoppers.ca. Refer to incident ST25004265.

Fraud

A St. Thomas resident has lost $1,400 to a prevalent scam. The fraudster posed as the victim’s son, sending a text message claiming to need money for urgent vehicle repairs. To explain the use of an unfamiliar phone number and email address, the scammer alleged they were experiencing phone issues. The STPS is urging the community to remain vigilant against scams like these and to confirm requests like this through an alternative method of communication before transferring any funds.
