Media Release for Saturday June 1st, 2024

Prohibited Driver

On Friday morning, while conducting speed enforcement, police stopped a motorist for travelling more than 20km/hr over the posted speed limit. The driver admitted to the officer that he was unlicenced. Further investigation revealed the driver’s licence had been suspended since 2017 for failure to complete a remedial program ordered as a result of a conviction for impaired driving. A second driver’s licence suspension was registered for unpaid fines. As a result, the 36-year-old male driver was charged with Operation while Prohibited, Driving while Under Suspension, and Speeding. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for 45 days and he was released with a future court date. ST24008989

Fraud

Police are investigating a fraud incident involving switching price tags at a business in the 1000 block of Talbot St. On May 29th a male attended the business, swapped the price tags of two televisions, and proceeded through the check-out, effectively paying $1300 less than the sticker price. The male returned the following day and returned the television, only the television inside the box was actually an old, previously used television. Arson

On Friday afternoon police were called to an area on Curtis St for reports of a male lighting a couch on fire. The couch burnt down to the frame and caused damage to an adjacent building. Police responded located the male a short distance away and took him into custody. The 47-year-old male is charged with Arson – Disregard for Human Life. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and later released with a future court date. ST24009027.

Warrant Arrest

During the early hours of Saturday June 1st, police came across a 29-year-old female known to police. A query of the female revealed she is currently wanted on the strength of two warrants for Fail to Comply with Probation. The female was arrested without incident and transported to police headquarters to be held for morning court. ST24009052
