Shoplifting:
On Saturday the 20th of July officers attended a local business to take the report a male shoplifter that had been in the store the previous evening. The male had selected merchandise throughout the store and then left without paying. Video was reviewed and officers identified a male known to them as a 42-year-old St Thomas resident. A warrant is being sought for this individuals arrest – to be charged with theft under $5000. Incident ST24012445.
On Saturday a downtown business contacted the St Thomas Police Service to report a male was currently in the store and was hiding merchandise in his clothing. Store staff approached the male after contacting Police and he returned some of the items and fled the scene. The matter is currently under investigation. Incident ST24012473.
Breach of conditions/warrant arrest:
On Saturday evening Police were contacted to attend a north end residential neighbourhood for reports of a suspicious male and female, unknown to local neighbours, sitting on a front lawn and consuming alcohol. Police attended and learned that the male and the female did not live in the area and trespassing. On conducting checks of the parties Police learned that the 30 year old female, from London, was currently on charges before courts and had a release condition to not associate with the male. The female was arrested and charged with failure to comply with an Undertaking. The male was found to have a warrant with Strathroy Police Service and was transported to cells awaiting confirmation from Strathroy PS. Both parties were later released. On the 20th of July the volunteer organization Veterans and Everyday Heroes (https://www.v-eh.ca) was hosting their first “Annual day of Heroes” and conducting a charity motorcycle ride/cavalcade from Port Stanley to London in an effort to raise awareness and funds for veteran supports. The Ontario Provincial Police and the St Thomas Police Service both provided assistance in traffic control to allow the motorcade the travel between Port Stanley and London quickly and safely.
On the 20th of July officers attended Pinafore park to spend some time with community members, canine companions and service dogs attending the annual Pawsitively Elgin Dog Festival. Proceeds of the festival are provided to several non-profit organizations that assist in seek re-homing animals that are in need of care.
