Additional charges in Impaired Causing Death incident

Additional charges have been laid in the impaired driving incident that claimed the life of 11 year old Aiden Curtis on July 4th, 2023
On Tuesday September 19th during a court appearance at the Elgin County Courthouse, 19 year old Nicholas Lemke was additionally charged with:
- 2 counts Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
- Dangerous operation causing death
- Impaired Operation causing bodily harm
Lemke was processed on the additional charges during his court appearance yesterday and was released with a future court date.

UPDATE – (2/2)
This evening, just before 5 p.m. St. Thomas Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Talbot Street and Caso Crossing. A red pickup truck was travelling west bound on Talbot Street where the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck 5 pedestrians on the sidewalk.
At this time, we can confirm the collision has resulted in the death of a child. An adult female has been transported to London Health Sciences Centre with serious, potentially life threatening injuries. The remaining 3 pedestrians were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the red pickup truck has been arrested for Impaired Driving Causing Death and Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and is being held in police custody.
Names will not be made public at this time out of respect for the involved families.
The intersection will remain closed as police continue their investigation.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
St. Thomas Police are currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision.
Talbot Street at Caso Crossing is and will remain closed as STPS conduct their investigation.
Please avoid the area.
