St. Thomas, ON – Thursday November 9th, 2023
Awareness, Engagement, Prevention. This years theme for Crime Prevention week, with an underscore on prevention.
The St. Thomas Police Service has engaged the services of 529 Garage, a bike registration program that connects riders to each other and the police in the St. Thomas area.
A past analysis done by STPS showed that bicycles are being stolen primarily overnight, but that the second highest rate was during the afternoon in daylight hours. The St Thomas Police investigate many incidents where bicycles have been locked up – but the analysis showed a large number of bicycles stolen had been left unlocked.
Prevention is key when it comes to securing your property and your bike.
- Always secure and lock your bicycle when out.
- When possible bring your bicycle inside or store out of sight when not in use.
- Maintain a record of the make, model, and most importantly the serial number of your bicycle.
- Utilize our free online bike registry to assist in identifying and returning your bike, if located by Police.
Crime prevention requires all of us to work together to make our homes, neighbourhoods, and workplaces safe.
