St. Thomas, ON – Friday February 21st 2025
A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after an incident in the city, early this morning.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., officers on community patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a vehicle due to an improper license plate cover, obstructing the visibility of the plate. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police and continued driving.
The vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Balaclava before pursuit of the vehicle was terminated due to public safety concern.
At approximately 1:13 a.m. officers located the vehicle, abandoned in a snowbank near Hammond and Woodworth Avenue. The driver had left the area on foot.
STPS K9 Unit was called to the area and began to track fresh foot prints leading from the vehicle. PSD Rocky, led officers to an address on Burwell Road, where the driver of the vehicle was located and arrested just after 2 a.m.
As a result, the 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with:
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Driving while under suspension
- Entire plate not plainly visible
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
The individual was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST25002844
