Media Release Wednesday September 18th 2024

Impaired Operation

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 17th 2024, STPS received a 9-1-1 call from an alert citizen who wished to report a possible impaired driver. It was reported the vehicle being driven was unable to maintain their lane and had left the roadway, driving over a curb.

Based on the information provided, police were able to locate the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop. Through investigation, police formed grounds that the driver, a 37 year old St. Thomas resident was impaired by alcohol and a roadside screening device was administered, registering a fail. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters where further testing resulted in the individual being charged with one count Operation while Impaired plus 80. The 37 year old was released on an appearance notice with a future court date, their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded. ST24016785

As the result of a traffic stop in the early morning hours of September 18th 2024, a 62 year old Aylmer resident has been charged with Impaired Operation. Just before 2:30 a.m. this morning, officers on general patrol observed the individual lose control of their vehicle while navigating a roundabout on the south east side of the city.  A traffic stop was conducted and through investigation, police formed grounds that the drivers ability to operate their vehicle was impaired. The individual was transported to police headquarters where testing resulted in the individual being charged with Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, Operation while Impaired plus 80 and Drive Motor Vehicle – no license. The 62 year old was processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST24016794

Failure to Comply

A 36 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On September 16th 2024, police were notified by a remote monitoring company that the individual had tampered with their remote monitoring device. STPS located the individual who was subsequently transported to police headquarters and processed to attend court. As a result of their court appearance, the individual was charged with Failure to Comply and remanded into custody. ST24016682

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a theft that occurred from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Tuesday September 17th 2024, officers were called to investigate the incident that occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. It was reported that an unknown individual wearing a rainbow, tie dye sweatshirt entered the store and selected two bottles of liquor and left failing to pay. STPS are reviewing video surveillance of the incident to identify the individual. ST24016764

An electric ratchet, valued at $299 has been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Monday September 16th 2024, police were called to the store to investigate the report of an unknown person entering the store, selecting the item and continuing to exit without paying. Video surveillance of the incident is being reviewed as this remains under investigation. Break and Enter

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report of a break and enter to a garage. On Tuesday September 17th 2024, STPS were called to a south east address for the report of an unknown person entering a garage and stealing approximately $500 worth of property from inside. Police are reviewing available neighourhood surveillance footage as they continue to investigate. ST24016779

Suspended Driver

A 34 year old London resident has been served several Highway Traffic Act summons and had their vehicle towed after a traffic stop in the city, last night. Through investigation, officers learned the driver of the vehicle was currently suspended and uninsured. As a result the individual has been charged with one count Driving while under suspension, one count Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, one count Fail to have insurance card and one count Fail to notify change of address. The individual was released with a future court date. ST24016781

Warrant Arrest 

A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. While dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter, officers were made aware of an outstanding warrant held by the Sarnia Police Service for Failure to Comply and Impaired Operation.  The individual was processed and custody was exchanged with SPS.
