Police Solve String of Thefts

Two people have been arrested after a string of mysterious thefts from several city owned properties has plagued St. Thomas for most of the summer.  Members from the STPS Street Crimes Unit were assigned to the case which saw almost thirty four hundred dollars in cash and property be reported stolen from several buildings throughout July and August, one small quantity at a time.  A twenty three year old and a fourteen year old were recently identified as the suspects and taken into custody over the weekend.  Investigators discovered that the incidents began back in November when the twenty three year old man entered the Parks and Recreation Office at Pinafore Park stealing some cash, a ring of keys and the office pet rescue rabbit.  In July the man along with his youth accomplice began trying the keys at several locations around the city discovering they could gain access to the building at Athletic Park along with the Canteen and offices in Pinafore .  The two stole food, cash and soccer equipment.  The adult was charged two counts Break, Enter and Theft and one count Mischief Under $5000.  He was released on a Promise to Appear in Court.   The youth was also charged one count Break, Enter and Theft and one count Mischief Under $5000 and will attend a diversion program as stipulated in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
