Owner injured stopping his vehicle from being stolen

On the 6th of April 2018, around 10pm the owner of a passenger minivan left his Confederation Drive apartment building to discover an unknown male suspect inside his vehicle in the parking lot.  The owner attempted to stop the theft of the vehicle by opening the door.  The suspect put the vehicle into motion and the owners hand became stuck in the door causing him to be dragged from the parking lot and onto the road where the van crashed into a pole a short distance from the apartment building.  The male suspect fled from the vehicle on foot resulting in the K-9 unit and members of the St. Thomas Police searching the area for the suspect.  It is believed the suspect left the area in a vehicle.
The owner was transported to hospital and later released with minor injuries.  The vehicle was recovered and the investigation is continuing.
If anyone has any information on this incident please contact the St. Thomas Police Services at (519)-631-1224 or at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS.
