Obstruct / Fraud / Assault / Mischief

A thirty year old St. Thomas man has been charged with one count of Obstructing Police and one count Breach of Probation.  The incident occurred Saturday night around 10:30 pm when officers pulled up to a suspicious U-Haul truck parked in a playground on Confederation Drive.  The truck was occupied by two males and when the driver was questioned he provided a false name to police.  Officers on scene were able to determine the driver’s true identity and confirm that he was already on probation with a curfew.  He was arrested at the scene and later released on a Promise To Appear In Court.
On Wednesday March 14th a thirty six year old London woman stole a wallet from the ladies locker room at the Fit 4 Less in Elgin Mall.  The woman then proceeded to Talbot Street stores where she was able to make three separate purchases totaling almost three hundred dollars before the credit card was declined.  The woman then headed over to a cheque cashing business where she attempted to cash a cheque she found in the stolen wallet for over $1 500 using the stolen identification that was also in the wallet.  Luckily the clerk realized the cheque and ID did not belong to the customer and contacted police.  Officers attended the location and arrested the woman.  As a result she is now charged with One Count of Obstruct Police, one count of Theft Under $5000, two counts of Attempt Fraud, one count of Utter Forged Document, one count of Personation with Intent, one count of Identity Theft and three counts of Theft and Forgery of Credit Card.  The accused was later released on a Promise To Appear In Court.
A twenty year old St. Thomas man has been arrested after an argument with his common law girlfriend turned physical.  The twenty year old victim was slapped and had her cell phone broken after it was thrown to the floor.  As a result the accused has been charged with one count of Mischief to Property and one count of Assault.  He was released on a Promise To Appear In Court.  No injuries were reported by the victim.
A fifty one year old prisoner from Elgin-Middlesex Detention Center has been charged with one count of Mischief to Property under $5000 after a court appearance at the Elgin County Court House in St. Thomas yesterday.  The man was escorted to court from the jail and held in the court house cells for his appearance.  During this time the man appears to have used a zipper tab on his clothing to carve his name in the cell block wall.  He remains in custody and will answer to the charge in court at a later date.
