Fail to Stop for School Bus/Refuse to Provide Breath Sample/Multiple Thefts

Fail to Stop for School Bus
On March 29, 2018 at around 3:47 pm a school bus driver reported to the St. Thomas Police that a vehicle had failed to stop for his school bus while it was stopped with bus lights activated. At the time of the incident children were in the process of unloading off the bus. Investigation lead to a 40 year old female driver being charged with Fail to Stop for School Bus. She was issued a Provincial Offence Notice with a total fine of $490 and six demerit points if found guilty.
Refuse to Provide Breath Sample
On Friday March 30, 2018 the St. Thomas Police stopped a vehicle in the area of Princess Ave. and Centre St. When the vehicle came to a stop the driver exited the vehicle and fled the area. The 25 year old male was located a short distance away and it was determined that the male was under the influence of alcohol. The male was provided with a road side breath demand to provide a sample of his breath into an approved screening device. The male refused to provide a sample of his breath and is charged with one count of Failing to Provide Breath Sample on Demand contrary to the Criminal Code. The male is also charged with a Highway Traffic Act Violation of No Currently Validated Permit. The 25 year old male was released on an appearance notice.
Theft and Trespassing
On April 1, 2018 at around 10:20 am Police were called to a Talbot St. business with regards to a theft that had occurred earlier in the morning. Police learned that a group of three people had distracted the clerk while the female in the group concealed some items in her purse. The female eventually paid for some items, but did not pay for the items she had concealed. Evidence obtained from store video lead to the 46 year old female being charged with one count of Theft Under $5000. One of the males a 26 year old who was present during the theft, had already been previously trespassed form the store and will be charged with one count of Trespassing. The third male will be issued a trespass notice banning him from the store.
Theft
On Monday April 2, 2018 at around 3:00 pm a 46 year old male was observed stealing a bottle of perfume from a local business. The male had concealed the bottle in his jacket. When the male was stopped outside the store by Loss Prevention he handed over the bottle and walked away from the scene. Police were called and located the suspect a short distance away. Investigation revealed that the male had also stolen some tool accessories that he had hidden in his backpack. As a result of the incident the male is charged with one count of Theft Under $5000 and he was issued a trespass notice.
Arrest Warrant for Theft
On April 2, 2018 at 7:45 pm Police were called to a local residence with regards to an unwanted male. When police arrived the 38 year old male was still at the residence. A check of the male revealed that there was a warrant for his arrest in relation to a theft that had occurred in St. Thomas on January 22, 2018. The male was arrested on the power of the warrant and taken to the St. Thomas Police Station. The male was later released on a promise to appear and undertaking. He is charged with one count of Theft Under $5000.
